最近有一则有关“中国夫妻喝桶装水5年患癌长肿瘤”报道疯传，需留意的是，新闻中提及，该桶装水的瓶身并非合格PC（聚碳酸酯）材质，导致塑化剂等毒素随着水被长期喝下肚，积累后引发肝癌。针对这起事件，马来西亚瓶装水制造商协会（MBWA）欲发表以下观点：
- 我们相信，所有MBWA的注册会员都严格遵守大马卫生部食品安全与品质部门的相关食品条例。
- MBWA已针对5加仑桶装水使用PC（聚碳酸酯）材质制造一事展开讨论，而我们更建议会员使用PET（聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯）材质代替PC。
- 我们不希望对有关个案发表评论，因为该案的初步信息有限，而我们需要更多的数据和科学证据以发表观点。 众所周知，癌症疾病可能与许多因素有关，而非单一因素造成。
- 我们认为，个案发生的国家与大马的标准及要求不一样，因此不能进行比较或产生任何联系。
- 尽管如此，我们还是促请所有媒体都应该以一种更恰当、专业及中立的方式来报道案件，以免让社会中产生不必要的恐惧或焦虑。
MBWA关心并敦促所有成员们继续严格遵守我国食品法规的所有法规和要求，MBWA也会积极协助在这方面有疑问的所有成员。

MEDIA STATEMENT
In response to the recent report by a local online newspaper on a case happened in a town in China whereby it was claimed; quote “the family been diagnosed with cancer related disease, and it claimed that related to the daily consumption of 5gallon water that they consume. And it was found that the container (PC) used for the bottled water not according to the standard set by their authority” unquote, hereby MBWA would like to express our views as below:
- We trust and believe that all MBWA members registered with the association are complying to all the standard and requirements by the BKKM (Food safety Department) according to the Food Regulations and Acts.
- Usage of PC container for the filling of 5gallone water had been raised and discussed and members had been advised to use PET bottle instead.
- We do not wish to comment on the case as the preliminary information on the case is limited and our view is more data and scientific proof needed. As base on general knowledge cancer disease can link to many factors.
- We are in the view that both country standard requirement not the same and cannot be compared or whatsoever linkage.
- Nevertheless, we urge all social media or media should report cases like this is a more proper and professional manner, in view to avoid generate unnecessary fear or anxiety among the general user.
MBWA express our concern and urge all members to continue the good compliance to all regulation and requirements according to Food Regulation. MBWA always here to help and to assist all members that have doubts in this aspect.
